Coconut Onion Tomato Chutney


Coconut Onion Tomato Chutney is one of the simple and perfect chutneys that can be served for dosa/idly/vada. Here I share recipe followed by My Mother.

There are so many chutney varieties that are cooked all over the world to accompany with different food. In India,mostly the  chutney varieties   are like coconut chutneys, garlic chutney,pudina(mint) chutney,tomato chutney,imli(tamarind) chutney,etc., served with idly,dosa,vada,pakoda,fritters,etc., Here I shared the links of some of the chutney varieties in this blog.

Coconut is the key ingredient used in this recipe.In Kerala,Coconut plays a major role in making dishes. Coconut controls the functioning of thyroid glands. It also improves brain functioning. It plays major role for boosting immunitiy power.Coconut can also be used for skin as well as hair care.We can intake coconut by itself,coconut milk,coconut oil.Using coconut we can do many breakfast recipes,curries,snacks,etc., Here I share the links of some of the recipes that are made with coconut.


Onion is another key ingredient used in this recipe.In India,Onion plays a major role in making dishes. Onion contains nutrients that are used to control blood pressure. It also prevents cancer. Recipe Overview:

In this Post I share the recipe Coconut Onion Tomato Chutney. First we fry and cook onion,tomato,coconut along with spice powders.Then grind it into paste.Prepare seasoning and pour over the chutney.Served with idly,dosa,etc.,

Ingredients:

Onion(Roughly Chopped) 1 No.
Tomato(Roughly Chopped) 2 Nos.
Grated Coconut 1/4 Cup.
Green Chilly 1 or 2 Nos.
Garlic Cloves 3 Nos.
Turmeric Powder 1/4 Tsp.
Red Chilly Powder 1 Tsp.
Urud Dal 1 Tsp.
Coconut Oil 3 Tsp..
Salt to Taste.

For Seasoning/Tempering:

Coconut Oil 2 Tsp.
Mustard Seeds 1 Tsp.
Curry Leaves Few.

Step By Step Instructions:
  • Heat coconut oil in a pan.Seasoning with urud dal.
  • Add onion,garlic,tomato,green chilly to it and fry for 2 minutes.
  • Add turmeric powder,red chilly powder,salt and fry it well until raw smell goes out.
  • Add grated coconut to it and fry for 1 minute.
  • Turn off the stove and cool down completely.
  • Transfer to the mixie jar and grind it into fine paste.Transfer to the serving bowl.
  • Heat coconut oil in the same pan.Season with mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • Pour the seasoning over the chutney.
  • Now our Coconut Onion Tomato Chutney is ready to serve with Idly,Dosa,Vada,etc.,

Chop the veggies as mentioned.

Heat coconut oil in a pan.Add urud dal.

Add onion,tomato,green chilly,garlic to it and fry for 2 minutes.

Add turmeric powder,red chilly powder,salt to it and fry until raw smell goes out.

Add grated coconut and fry for 1 minute.

Turn off the stove.Cool down completely.

Transfer to the mixie jar.

Pour the seasoning over the chutney.Now our Coconut Onion Tamato Chutney is ready to serve for idly/dosa.
