Simple Coconut Rice(Thengai Saadam/Nariyal Rice) for Prasadam By Raji's Smart Kitchen "Cook Food in a Smart Way".


Coconut Rice is one of the popular prasadam/offering in major South Indian Temple especially in Sai Baba Temple in our place.Apart from prasadam,it is one of the simple and easy rice dish which can be prepared in less time for lunch. Veg Fries,Pickles are the best sidedish for this recipe. Here I share the coconut rice recipe that are cooked using pressure cooker.

Recipe Overview:

In this Post I share the recipe Coconut Rice. It is one of the simple easy rice recipes.First we soak the basmathi rice for 1/2 an hour.In a pressure cooker,we roast urud dal along with some seasonings.Then we add grated coconut and roast well.Then we add the rice and pressure cook.Now our Coconut Rice is ready. Serve with veg fries or pickles.Come on lets see the ingredients required and the step by step procedure for this recipe.

Ingredients:

Basmathi Rice(Soaked in water for half an hour)    1 Cup.
Grated Coconut    1 Cup.
White Urud Dal     a handful.
Chana Dal    2 Tsp.
Cashewnuts    Few.
Asafoetida(hing) Powder    1/4 Tsp.
Dry Red Chilly    2 Nos.
Mustard Seeds    1 Tsp.
Coconut Oil    3 Tsp.
Ghee 1 Tbsp.
Salt to Taste.
Water 1 3/4 Cups 
Curry Leaves    a Handful.

Step By Step Instructions:
  • Heat oil and ghee together in a pressure cooker.
  • Add urud dal,mustard seeds,channa dal,cashewnuts,dry red chilly,asafoetida powder,curry leaves and season it well.
  • Add grated coconut and roast it well.
  • Add 1 cup soaked basmathi rice and mix it well.
  • Add 1 3/4 cup water and required salt to it.Give a good mix.(the taste of the water must be little salty)
  • Boil it for 2 to 3 minutes.Pressure cook it for 1 whistle.
  • Gently mix the rice with fork.Add few curry leaves.
  • Our Simple and Tasty Coconut Rice is ready.Serve with fryums and pickles.

Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cooker.


Season with mustard seeds,urud dal,channa dal,cashewnuts,dry red chilly,asafoetida powder and curry leaves.


Add 1 cup grated coconut and roast it well.


Add 1 cup soaked basmathi rice.


Mix it well.


Add 1 3/4 cup of water.


Add required salt and mix it well.(the taste of the water must be little salty)


Boil it for 2 to 3 minutes.


Close with lid and pressure cook for 1 whistle.


Now the rice is cooked well.


Gently give a mix with fork.Add few curry leaves.


Our Simple Coconut Rice is ready.Serve with fryums or pickles.
