Susiyam "Prasad for Ganpathi Festival" By Raji's Smart Kitchen "Cook Food in a Smart Way".


Susiyam is our traditional fried sweet snacks which is one of the most beloved prasad(offering) for Lord Ganesha. In our home town,for Ganesh Chaturthi,this prasad plays a big role in every house. Here I share the recipe for Susiyum followed by My Mother.

Recipe Overview:

In this Post I share the recipe Susiyam. First we prepare stuffing, for that soak the green moong for 2 hours. Pressure cook the moong and strain the leftover water. In a nonstick pan, add ghee and roast some grated coconut until golden brown color. Then add jaggery. Add little water and melt it to form caramel. Then add cardamom and dry ginger powder to it.Now add the cooked moong and fry it continously until it nonsticky to the pan. Now the stuffing is ready,cool down completely. Make small balls. In a mixing bowl, add some all purpose flour(maida),a pinch of salt,add some water and make a thick batter. Dip the balls into the batter and coat well. Fry the coated balls in the hot oil. Now our Susiyam is ready for our beloved Ganpathi Bappa.

Ingredients:

For Stuffing
Green Moong 1 cup.
Grated Jaggery 3/4 cup.
Grated Coconut 1/2 cup.
Cardamom Powder 1 pinch.
Dry Ginger Powder 1 pinch.
Ghee 2 tbsp..
Water as required.
For Batter
Maida 1/2 cup.
Salt 1 small pinch.

Oil for Frying.

Step By Step Instructions:
  • Soak the green moong in water for 2 hours.
  • Pressure cook the moong for 5 whistle and strain the remaining water.Keep it aside
  • Heat ghee in a nonstick pan..
  • Add the grated coconut into it and roast well until it turns into a golden brown color..
  • Add the jaggery to it.Add little water and melt it to a caramel syrup.
  • When it starts melting,add cardamom powder and dry ginger powder to it and mix well.
  • Now add the green moong and mix and mash it well with a potato masher..
  • Saute it continously until the mixture becomes nonsticky to the pan.Now our stuffing is ready and allow it to cool.
  • Make small balls.
  • Heat oil in a pan for frying.
  • Meanwhile,take a mixing bowl,add maida,a pinch of salt and little water. Mix well to form a thick batter.
  • Dip the stuffing ball into the batter and coat well.
  • Put the coated ball into the hot oil and fry until golden brown color.
  • Now our Susiyum is ready for our beloved Ganpathi Bappa.

Now the moong is boiled well.


Strain the remaining water and keep it aside.


Heat ghee in a nonstick pan.


Add coconut to it.


Roast it until golden brown color.


Add the grated jaggery into it.


Add little water to it.


Melt it to form a caramel syrup.


Add a pinch of cardamom powder and dry ginger powder to it.


Now add the boiled moong to it.


Mix it well.


Mash it with a potato masher.


Saute it continously until the mixture becomes nonsticky.


Now our stuffing is ready. Cool it down completely.


Make small balls.


Take a mixing bowl and add all purpose flour(maida) and a pinch of salt into it.


Add little water to it.


Mix it well to form a thick batter.


Heat oil for frying.


Dip the stuffing balls in the batter.


Coat it well with the batter.


Put the coated balls into the hot oil.


Fry it well until golden brown color.


Strain the excess oil.


Now our Susiyum is ready for our beloved Ganpathi Bappa.
