Sambhar is one the favourite sidedish curry/gravy in Indian Recipe which is suitable for idly,dosa,dosa.We can make sambhar in different variations.Here I shared the sambhar recipe which is made of moong dal that is followed by my mother.

In this Post I share the recipe Moong Dal Sambhar recipe which becomes the best combination for idly/dosa.For that we prepare a masala mixture.Then we pressure cook the moong dal.Fry and cook the veggies and masala mixture.Add the dal and sambhar masala powder and cook well.Now our Yummy Moong Dal Sambhar is ready. Lets see the ingredients required and the detailed step by step instructions for making this recipe.

Moong Dal 1 Cup..
Ladyfinger(Roughly Chopped) 4 To 5 Nos..
Drumstick(Roughly Chopped) 1 No..
Pumpkin(Roughly Chopped) Small Piece..
Carrot(Roughly Sliced) Small Piece..
Potato(Roughly Chopped) 1 No.
Onion(Roughly Chopped) 1 No.
Tomato(Roughly Chopped) 2 Nos.
Green Chilly 1 or 2 Nos.
Sambhar Powder 5 Tbsp.
Coconut Oil 1 Tbsp.
Sugar 1/4 Tsp.
Salt to Taste.
Water as Required.
Coriander Leaves for Garnishing.
For Masala Mixture:
Cumin Seeds(Jeera) 1 Tsp
Black Pepper 1/2 Tsp
Garlic Cloves 5 Cloves.
For Seasoning:
Mustard Seeds 1 Tsp
Asafoetida(Hing) 1/4 Tsp
Coconut Oil 3 Tsp.
Curry Leaves Few.
Step By Step Instructions:
- Chop the veggies as mentioned.
- Take a mixie jar,add garlic,cumin(jeera) seeds,pepper and grind it in pulse mode without adding water(dry grinding).Keep it aside.
- Dry roast the moong dal in a pressure cooker.Add required water and pressure cook it for 2 to 3 whistles.Keep it aside.
- Heat coconut oil in a pan,add the masala mixture and fry for 30 seconds.
- Add onion,tomato,green chillies and fry for 1 or 2 minutes.
- Add all the chopped veggies and required salt to it.Fry it for 2 to 4 minutes.
- Add required water to it and cook the veggies 3/4 th done.
- Add the cooked moong dal and mix it well.Add water if required.Boil it for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add sambhar powder to it and mix it well.
- Cook it for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add sugar and few coriander leaves to it and boil for 2 minutes.Our Sambhar is ready.Turn off the stove.
- For preparing seasoning,heat coconut oil in a tadka pan,season it with mustard,asafoetida(hing) and curry leaves.
- Pour the seasoning over the sambhar.
- Garnish with Coriander Leaves.
- Now our Yummy Moong Dal Sambhar is ready. Serve with Idly,dosa,etc.,

Chop the veggies as mentioned.
For masala mixture,grind the masala mixture ingredients.
Dry roast the moong dal in a pressure cooker.
Pressure cook it for 2 to 3 whistles.
Heat coconut oil in a pan,fry the masala mixture for 30 secs.
Add onion,tomato,green chilly and fry it for 1 or 2 minutes.
Add all the veggies to it and fry it well for 2 to 4 minutes.
Add salt to it and fry.
Add required water to it and cook the veggies 3/4 th done.
Add cooked dal to it and mix it well.
Add required water,cook for 3 to 5 minutes.
Add sambhar powder.
Mix and boil it for 4 to 5 minutes.
Add sugar,few coriander leaves to it and boil for 2 minutes.
Prepare the seasoning.
Pour the seasoning over the sambhar.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Now our Yummy Moong Dal Sambhar is ready.Serve with idly,dosa,etc.,
