Leftover Shredded Idly(Kothu Idly)


 Idly is one of the popular and favourite dish of South India which is made of rice,urud dal.Here I share the recipe of how to make Shredded Idly with the leftover idlies that I have tried.

In this Post I share the recipe Leftover Shredded Idly(Kothu Idly) for that first we shredd the leftover idlies.Then we fry the veggies and eggs along with spice powders.Lastly we add the shredded idlies to it and fry it well.Our dish is ready. Ingredients:

Leftover Idlies 5 to 8 Nos.
For Idly/Dosa Batter Recipe. 
For Soft Idly Recipe.
Egg 3 Nos.
Onion(Sliced) 1 Number.
Green Chilly 2 Numbers.
Ginger Garlic Paste 1 Tsp.
Tomato(Sliced) 1 No.
Capsicum(Cubed) 1 No.
Turmeric Powder 1/4 Tsp.
Red Chilly Powder 1 Tsp.
Coriander Powder 1 Tsp.
Garam Masala Powder 1/2 Tsp.
Egg Masala Powder(Optional) 1 Tsp.
Pepper Powder 1 Tsp.
Urud Dal 1 Tsp.
Mustard Seeds 1 Tsp.
Salt to Taste.
Curry Leaves Few.
Oil 2 Tbsp.
Coriander Leaves For Garnishing.

Step By Step Instructions:
  • Shredd the leftover idlies into pieces and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a wide pan,season with mustard seeds,urud dal,curry leaves and green chilly.
  • Add onion and fry.Add ginger garlic paste and fry until soft.
  • Add tomato and fry for 2 minute.
  • Add turmeric powder,red chilly powder,coriander powder,garam masala powder,salt and fry it well until raw smell goes out.
  • Add Capsicum and fry for a while.
  • Add Eggs,salt,pepper to it and fry it well along with the veggies.
  • Add egg masala powder to it and fry it well(optional).
  • Now add the shredded idlies to it and mix it well.
  • Add pepper powder and give a good mix.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.Serve hot.

Shredd the idly into pieces.Keep it aside.

Fry it well along with the veggies.


Add egg masala powder and fry(optional).


Add the shredded idly pieces and mix.


Add 1/2 tsp pepper powder and mix it well.


Garnish with coriander leaves.


Our Leftover Shredded Idly(Kothu Idly) is ready.Serve it hot.
