I hope you all are fine.Long days I have a desire to try fish curry in different style.In our place we normally cook fish with coconut base.I decided to make the fish curry without coconut for that I go through my recipe book and get a bengali style ruhu(rui) fish curry.I buy this Rohu(rui) fish from Licious app and it is very fresh,sliced,well cleaned and well packed.I cook this curry for lunch and dinner.This curry was very simple to cook and its taste was awesome and very different from our very own coconut based curry.My family members also enjoy this fish curry very well.Here I share that recipe of how to make the Bengali Style Rohu(Rui) Fish Curry which I have tried.

For this recipe we need to do some pre-preparation like onion paste,tomato paste.For onion paste,roughly chop 2 medium sized onions and grind it into a fine paste.For tomato paste roughly chop medium sized riped 2 to 3 tomatoes and grind it into a fine paste.Then heat oil in a pan,add the tomato paste along with required salt and a pinch of sugar.Cover and cook till the oil seperates(stir it in between).Now the tomato paste is ready.We can also make in large quantity in advance and stored it refrigerator upto one week.It can used in making curries and gravies. Ingredients:
Ruhu(Rui) Fish 500 Gms.
Onion Paste 4 Tbsp.
Tomato Paste 3 Tbsp.
Ginger Garlic Paste 1 Tbsp.
Green Chilly 2 Nos.
Red chilly Powder 1 Tbsp.
Turmeric Powder 1/4 Tsp.
Garam Masala Powder 1 Tsp.
Cardamom 2 Nos.
Cinnamon Stick 1 No.
Cloves 3 Nos.
Bay Leaf 2 Nos.
Oil 2 Tbsp.
Water as Required.
Salt as Required.
Sugar 1 Pinch.
Curry Leaves Few.
Coriander Leaves Few.
Step By Step Instructions:
- Clean and marninate the 1/2 kg(500 gms) rohu(rui) fish for 30 minutes by adding turmeric powder and salt.
- Lightly fry the fish both sides in pan by adding 1 tbsp oil.Keep it aside.
- For curry,heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan.Add 1 bayleaf,1 cinnamon stick,2 cardamom and 3 cloves.
- Add 4 tbsp onion paste along with 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste.Saute it for 2 minutes so that the raw smell goes out.
- Now add the 1 tbsp red chilly powder,1/4 tsp turmeric powder,required salt and a pinch of sugar.Saute it for one minute.
- Add 3 tbsp tomato paste to it and saute it for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add required water and cook it well the oil seperates out.
- Now add the fried fish pieces in to it.Gently stir it out.Cook it for 3 to 4 minutes.
- At last add 1 tsp garam masala,stir and cook it for 1 minute.
- Turn off the stove.Add few chopped curry leaves,green chilly and coriander leaves,cover and rest it for 10 minutes.Now our Bengali Style Rohu(Rui) Fish Curry is ready.Enjoy...

Heat oil in a pan,add whole garam masala like cinnamon,cardamom,cloves,bay leaf.
Add onion paste,ginger garlic paste and saute it for 2 minutes.

Add tomato paste and saute it for 2 minutes.
Add required water.
Cook it until the oil comes out.
Add the fried fish.
Gently stir and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
Add garam masala to it and cook for 1 minute.
Turn off the stove,add curry leaves,coriander leaves,green chilly to it.
Cover and rest it for 10 minutes.
Now Our Bengali Style Rohu(Rui) Fish Curry

Note:
For this recipe we want to lightly fry the fish before we put it in the curry.For healthy fry we can also bake the fish in oven by transfering the fish to the baking tray,bake it for 10 minutes then gril(broil) it for 10 minutes.
