Temple Sambhar Sadam(Sambhar Rice)
Temple Sambhar Sadam/Rice is one of the traditional variety rice dish which is served as prasad in most of the temples.Any mild dry sidedish variety becomes the best combination for this rice dish. Here I share the recipe that I have tried.

Recipe Overview:
In this Post I share the recipe Temple Sambhar Sadam(Sambhar Rice). First we pressure cook rice and toor dal.Then we heat oil in a pan and season with some seasonings.Now we add the sambhar vegetables and fry.Then we add the spice powders and fry.Then we boil the vegetables in tamarind water.Now we add the sambhar powder and fry it well.Finally we add the cooked dal rice,ghee and mix it well.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

Ingredients:
Rice 1 Cup.
Toor Dal(Sambhar Dal) 1/2 Cup.
Onion(Roughly Chopped) 1 No.
Tomato(Roughly Chopped) 1 No.
Sambhar Vegetables(Brinjal,Lady Finger,Carrot,Drumstick,Potato,Pumpkin) 1Cup(Roughly Chopped).
Tamarind Gooseberry size soaked in 1 cup of water.
Turmeric Powder 1/4 Tsp.
Red Chilly Powder 1/2 Tsp.
Coriander Powder 1/2 Tsp.
Sambhar Masala Powder 2 Tbsp(To Buy Sambhar Powder).
Asafoetida 1/4 Tsp.
Fenugreek Seeds(Methi) 1/4 Tsp.
Cumin Seeds(Jeera) 1 Tsp.
Urud Dal 1 Tsp.
Mustard Seeds 1 Tsp.
Dry Red Chilly 2 Nos.
Ghee 1 Tsp.
Oil 1 Tbsp.
Salt to Taste.
Water as Required.
Curry Leaves Few.
Coriander Leaves For Garnishing.
Step By Step Instructions:
- Soak rice and toor dal for 1/2 an hour.Pressure cook it for 5 whistle and keep it aside
- Heat oil in a pan and season with mustard seeds,urud dal,fenugreek seeds(methi),cumin seeds(jeera),asafoetida(hing),dry red chilly and curry leaves
- Add Onion and Tomato and fry it well.
- Add all the sambhar vegetables,salt and fry it well.
- Add turmeric powder,coriander powder,red chilly powder and fry it well.
- Add tamarind water,cover and cook until the vegetables done.
- Add sambhar powder to and fry it well.
- Now add the cooked dal rice and ghee and mix it well.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
Pictorial Description:
Soak rice and dal for 1/2 an hour.
Wash and transfer it to the pressure cooker.
Pressure cook it for 5 whistles.
Heat oil in a pan and season with mustard seed,cumin,urud dal,fenugreek seeds,asafoetida,dry red chilly and curry leaves.
Add onion and tomato together.
Add all the sambhar vegetables.
Add salt.
Fry it well.
Add turmeric powder,red chilly powder,coriander powder and fry it well.
Add tamarind water.
Cover and boil until the vegetables cooked well.
Now our vegetables are cooked well.
Add sambhar powder.
Fry it well.
Add the cooked dalrice and ghee to it.
Mix it well.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Now our Temple Sambhar Sadam(Sambhar Rice) is ready.Serve hot with some mild sidedish.
