Chicken Coconut Milk Thick Curry


Chicken Coconut Milk Thick Curry is one of the traditional recipe in our place. Here I share the recipe followed by my Mother.

Ingredients:

Chicken 1 Kg.

For Marination:

Ginger Garlic Paste    1 Tsp.
Turmeric Powder    1/4 Tsp.
Red Chilly Powder    1/2 Tsp.
Coriander Powder    1/2 Tsp.
Garam Masala    1/2 Tsp.
Chicken Masala    1 Tsp.
Salt.

For Curry:

Onion 2 Nos(Roughly Chopped).
Tomato 2 Nos(Roughly Chopped).
Small Onion(Shallots/Sambhar Onion) Few.
Green Chilly 3 Nos.
Green Cardamom(Ellakai or Chotti Elachi)    3 Nos.
Black Cardamom(Karupu Ellakai or Badi Elachi)    2 Nos.
Cinnamon(Patthai or Dalchini)    1 No.
Cloves(Kirambu or Launga)    4 Nos.
Kapak Buds or Marathi Muggu    1 No.
Fennel Seeds(Perumjeeragam or Sombu or Saunf)    1/2 Tsp.
Star Anise(Thakkolam or Ananas Flower)    2 Nos.
Bay Leaves(Tej Patta or Briyani Leaves)    2 Nos.
Turmeric Powder 1/4 Tsp.
Red Chilly Powder 2 Tsp.
Coriander Powder 1 Tsp.
Garam Masala 1/2 Tsp.
Chicken Masala 1 Tbsp.
Pepper Powder 1/4 Tsp.
Thick Coconut Milk 1 Cup.
Oil 3 Tbsp.
Water as Required.
Salt to Taste.
Coriander Leaves for Garnishing. 

For Seasoning/Tempering:

Coconut Oil    2 Tsp.
Mustard Seed(Rai)    1 Tsp.
Urud dal    1 Tsp.
Curry Leaves    Few.


Method:

Wash the Chicken and take it in a bowl.
Add all the marination ingredients to it.
Mix well and marinate for minimum 1 hour or refrigerate overnight.
Chop the Vegetables as mentioned above.
Heat Oil in a pan, add all the Whole Spices.
Add Onions and Chilly and fry it well until Onion becomes soft.
Add Tomatoes and fry it well.
Add Coriander Leaves to it and fry it well.
Add Salt Ginger Garlic Paste and fry it well.
Add the marinated Chicken into it.
Fry it well for 2 minutes.
Add Water to it.
Cover and Boil it for 20 Minutes.
Add Thick Coconut Milk to it and mix well.
Add all Spice Powders(except Pepper Powder) to it and boil for 10 minutes.
Now add the Pepper Powder to it and boil for 2 minutes.
Garnish with Coriander Leaves.
In a Tadka Pan, heat Coconut oil and season with Mustard Seeds,Urud dal and Curry Leaves.
                                                   
Add the tadka to the Curry.
Now our Chicken Coconut Milk Thick Curry is ready. Serve it with Rice, Idly, Dosa, Chappathi, Idyappam, Appam.
